This awarded competition proposal in Vietnam represents NDA's textbook example of how to transform a mountain with average resources into an exceptional tourist destination - by introducing strong and compelling themes. The proposal arranges a plethora of mountain activities based on fengshui principles, clustered in themed areas such as body (health & wellness), mind (culture & art) and soul (religion and faith).
AUGUST 2016 - Nha Trang_PIRV: The Arrival
In this successful competition entry, NDA creates a stunning arrival sequence for the future guests of Nha Trang' s premier resort destination: an iconic waterfall and a suspended aquarium hovering above the main lobby entrance.
JULY 2016 - Can Tho_MORC: One River in One Pond
Aiming to position itself as an authentic cultural station of the Mekong Delta, this mixed-use project tries to distill the essential features of the famous Mekong River and concentrate them in only one touristic destination: landscape, commerce and entertainment become the main pivotal themes that help organize the project’s multiple functions around its central, activated pond.
JUNE 2016 - Nha Trang_RMCR: The Tropical Ridge
Located in Vietnam’s most prolific resort destination, this project draws inspiration from the breath-taking landscape formations that surround the city of Nha Trang to create an urban “tropical ridge” – a gently shaped ensemble of serviced apartment buildings of different heights, organized around the best outdoor spa & resort facilities the city has to offer.
MAY 2016 - Vung Tau_PVHQ: The Oil Platform
NDA’s innovative proposal for Vietnam’s national oil company headquarters in Vung Tau dwells on the amazing engineering feats of oil platform design to devise a compelling concept that sees offices cantilevered on top of a conceptual layering of water surfaces and underwater reserves.
APRIL 2016 - Tianjin_ISRC: A Mountain Inside a Building
NDA’s mission for the interior design of the Tianjin Indoor Snow Park was to recreate a genuine mountain experience – replete with snowy slopes, vernacular chalets and wooden mountain hotels – all underneath a “starry sky” supported on reflective “frozen trees” a clear-span structural device that brings light into the vast interior space while giving a strong contemporary touch to the snow park experience.
MARCH 2016 - Tianjin_ISRC: Frozen Streams
This scenic view of the winning proposal for an international competition to design China’s mostground-breaking indoor snow park beautifully expresses NDA’s concept to create volumes that perfectly integrate into their snowy surroundings - by echoing the fluid lines of frozen streams.
FEBRUARY 2016 - Vung Tau_PCMP: Inland Waves
Confronted with the paradoxical brief of creating a water-themed resort and amusement park on a coastal site with poor water quality, NDA chooses to organize the development around a network of artificial lakes, pools and crystal lagoons that would allow the guests to experience perfect water quality all-year round. The urban masses gravitate towards these water bodies, creating sinuous shapes in the process: an organic landscape of “inland waves”.
JANUARY 2016 - Zhuhai_GITC: A Tropical Gateway
Referencing the island communities' art of taking advantage of local hilly landscapes to create terraced settlements with amazing vistas towards the sea, the commercial program is re-arranged into terraced levels that offer visitors the chance to stroll around an elevated F&B, retail and culture district, with breath-taking vistas of the open sea. Lush tropical greenery, refreshing water curtains and a vocabulary of local yellow stones with wooden highlights contributes to this project’s mission to rediscover the quintessential attributes of tropical architecture in order to provide visitors with a genuine island experience.
DECEMBER 2015 - Fuzhou_ECRC: Life. Unveiled.
In an act of urban reverence towards the accommodating marina plaza, the apartment building undergoes a process of gradual opening up towards it, allowing its privacy-insuring vertical mesh to pull back and expose an intricate system of loggias and cantilevered terraces. The burgeoning life of a highly introverted residential building - finally unveiled.
